What is PackVision?

PackVision is a cloud platform that connects barcode scanner workstations to automatic video recording and a searchable online portal. When an operator scans a barcode, PackVision captures a short video clip of the event and uploads it to the cloud — giving your team full visibility into every packing operation.

Do I need any special hardware?

No special hardware is required. PackVision works with any standard USB webcam or network IP/RTSP camera connected to a PC.

How do I get started?

Getting started takes less than 5 minutes: register your company (free 14-day trial, no credit card needed), open the scanner app webpage on your scanner workstation, enter your Workstation ID, connect a camera, and start scanning. Your first video will be in the portal within seconds.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — every new account gets a full 14-day free trial with access to all features on the Pro plan. No credit card is required to start. At the end of the trial you can choose the best plan for you to continue access to the service.

How does the video capture work?

When the app detects a barcode, it saves a clip starting approximately 5 seconds before the scan. The session continues recording until the stop packing button is pressed, a STOP QR code is scanned or the stop packing timeout completes, at which point the full session is uploaded to the cloud automatically.

What barcode formats are supported?

PackVision supports over 20 barcode formats including QR Code, EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Data Matrix, PDF417, Interleaved 2 of 5, and more. You can add any and all references related to your packing process via a barcode, for example capture order numbers, carton ID's, item numbers, tracking numbers or any other reference you require for later reference.

How do I end a scanning session?

To close a session, click the stop packing button or scan a QR code that contains the text STOP (case-insensitive). The app also starts a countdown after the last barcode scan which once completed will stop the recording automatically.

Can I search for a specific barcode across all sessions?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The Barcode Search feature lets you type any barcode value and instantly find every session and clip where that barcode was scanned — across all workstations and all dates. You can then watch, download or share the relevant video directly from the results.

How many workstations can I connect?

Accepted Answer

There is no limit to the number of workstations, your plan will provide an included amount then any additional workstations are billed per seat, please review the plans page for more information on inclusions.

Can I use an IP camera instead of a USB webcam?

Accepted Answer

Yes. While a webcam is recommended and the easiest way to get up and running, PackVision supports IP cameras and RTSP streams, you would need to locally configure the IP camera on your packing workstation using third party tools such as OBS Studio, SplitCam or NDI Webcam so they present to the browser as a webcam.

What plans are available?

Can I change my plan at any time?

Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from the Billing page in your portal. Upgrades take effect immediately. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing period.

How does billing work?

Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually in advance. Payments are processed securely by Stripe. You will receive an email receipt after each payment.

What happens to my videos if I cancel?

If you cancel your subscription, your account remains active until the end of your current billing period. After that, access is suspended but your data is retained for 30 days, giving you time to download anything you need. After 30 days, all data is permanently deleted.

How do I manage access?

Company administrators for your organisation can manage your users, through the users panel of your portal you can add, lock and remove users.

Where is my data stored?

All video recordings are stored in Microsoft's Azure cloud providing a secure and robust environment.

Who can see my videos?

Only users within your organisation can access your videos. Administrators at PackVision can access data only for platform support and maintenance purposes.

How long is my data stored?

Scan session data including timestamps and barcodes scanned will be stored as long as your subscription remains active, videos related to each session is held for the retention period of your plan, after this retention period the video is automatically purged.

What types of cameras are supported?

We recommend using a webcam connected to the device at the packing station. IP/network cameras that provide an RTSP stream can also be configured with additional steps to present these to your local device as a webcam.

Can I use a wide-angle or overhead camera?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Wide-angle USB webcams and overhead mount cameras work well for capturing a full packing bench. Position the camera so the product and barcode label are both visible in frame. A 90–110° field-of-view lens is recommended for bench-top setups.

Do you have any recommended cameras?

We've tested PackVision with a range of cameras, including the Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam (1080p 30fps, wide 78° FOV, plug-and-play USB — a reliable all-rounder for bench-top packing stations) and the Tapo C200 Pan/Tilt IP Camera (affordable RTSP-compatible IP camera, good for overhead or remote-mount installations).

Can I use more than one camera per workstation?

Currently PackVision supports one active camera per workstation. If you need to monitor multiple angles, you can run the app on separate workstations each connected to a different camera, or use an IP camera system with a virtual RTSP stream that combines multiple feeds.
